AMMAN Jordanian Trade and Industry Minister Wassef Azar has said his country is opposed to any new sanctions on Iraq after Baghdad warned Turkey and Jordan of a halt in oil supplies as a price for imposing U.S.-backed "smart" sanctions, AFP reported.
"Jordan calls for a lifting of the (UN) embargo imposed on Iraq since 1990 and rejects its replacement with any other type of sanctions," Azar said in statements published Tuesday by the Amman daily **** Al Arab al Yawm ****.
"our position is clear: an end to the embargo on Iraq and to the suffering of the Iraqi people," he said in reaction to the Iraqi warning.
